A rule variation coined the term “blackjack” as payouts went to the player who held the Jack of Spades. (@360anteup)

Twitpic of the Trip

There was no way that any picture other than one taking from or of the suite at the Palms wasn’t going to win Twitpic of the trip.  The hard part was just picking which one considering the view we had of the strip as well as the over the top room we stayed in.  Ultimately, I went with unique.  I’ve seen loads of awesome photos of the strip taking off-strip but I’d never seen this.  The “pic of the Trip” is a shot taken from the northeast corner of the room the morning after.  I picked this because it really gives you an idea of how large and over the top the place.  What you don’t see is this is only a little more than half of the entire suite.  You are still missing the “visible to the whole suite” shower with stripper pole in it as well as the 2 ½ baths, the floor to ceiling glass with remarkable views of the strip or that the entire suite is wired with speakers in the ceiling.  I only wish I had this thing for 360 Vegas Vacation because it was epic.

Twitpic of the week
Matt’s picture of the strip from a place I’ve seen a million times but have never captured on film before.  It’s a photo of the east side of the strip taken from the tip of the crosswalk at Caesars Palace.  This pic is a panorama that grabs Flamingo, Bill’s, Bally’s and a bit of Paris and it is stunning.  It’s one of the few times I’ve seen a picture and became a little disoriented because I didn’t immediately know where it was taken from.

Twitpic of the Trip
I put this picture out to the listeners and asked if it should be “Twitpic of the Trip” because I didn’t know if it should count because it’s not something everyone gets to experience and it isn’t particularly Vegas centric since this convention could be anywhere.  There is nothing that shows it’s in Vegas.  However, our listeners made it clear that they didn’t care.  They loved the picture and thought overwhelming that this should be the winner.  So it’s a picture of the G2E exhibit.  It shows of the WMS Gaming, Bally’s and Aristocrat areas of the expo using the panorama feature on the new iPhone.  For those of you that think his is overwhelming, the picture only shows you about a third to a half of the manufactures with exhibits and only about an 8th of the entire expo.  But I thought it was without a doubt the coolest looking collection area of the convention.

Tropicana opened in April of 1957 in a location that was considered to be a hindrance due to how far it sat from the rest of the strip properties.  Today, Tropicana Ave and Las Vegas Boulevard is the busiest intersection in the United States.  (Vintage Vegas Segment Research, multiple sources)

Twitpic of the Trip
We didn't have the iPhone mophie with us so we had to play battery management everyday. At the end of the trip, I started getting nervous because I hadn't been taking a ton of "Twitpic of the Trip" worthy pictures so I started paying attention.  It didn't take long to find something beautiful to take a picture of.  Riding down the elevator from our room, I saw this one and just started taking as many pictures as I could while we were going down.  This was our favorite.
