Twitpic of the week
Matt’s picture of the strip from a place I’ve seen a million times but have never captured on film before.  It’s a photo of the east side of the strip taken from the tip of the crosswalk at Caesars Palace.  This pic is a panorama that grabs Flamingo, Bill’s, Bally’s and a bit of Paris and it is stunning.  It’s one of the few times I’ve seen a picture and became a little disoriented because I didn’t immediately know where it was taken from.

Twitpic of the Trip
I put this picture out to the listeners and asked if it should be “Twitpic of the Trip” because I didn’t know if it should count because it’s not something everyone gets to experience and it isn’t particularly Vegas centric since this convention could be anywhere.  There is nothing that shows it’s in Vegas.  However, our listeners made it clear that they didn’t care.  They loved the picture and thought overwhelming that this should be the winner.  So it’s a picture of the G2E exhibit.  It shows of the WMS Gaming, Bally’s and Aristocrat areas of the expo using the panorama feature on the new iPhone.  For those of you that think his is overwhelming, the picture only shows you about a third to a half of the manufactures with exhibits and only about an 8th of the entire expo.  But I thought it was without a doubt the coolest looking collection area of the convention.

Tropicana opened in April of 1957 in a location that was considered to be a hindrance due to how far it sat from the rest of the strip properties.  Today, Tropicana Ave and Las Vegas Boulevard is the busiest intersection in the United States.  (Vintage Vegas Segment Research, multiple sources)

Twitpic of the Trip
We didn't have the iPhone mophie with us so we had to play battery management everyday. At the end of the trip, I started getting nervous because I hadn't been taking a ton of "Twitpic of the Trip" worthy pictures so I started paying attention.  It didn't take long to find something beautiful to take a picture of.  Riding down the elevator from our room, I saw this one and just started taking as many pictures as I could while we were going down.  This was our favorite.

Keren’s Review is her 7/26 review of Burger Bar @Mandalay Bay – 5/5 chips
Mark’s 7/27 review of Lavo @Palazzo – 5/5 chips

Twitpic of the Trip - I knew this one the second I took it.  As I was wandering around the pool taking pictures, looked up, saw the sun at the top of the Eiffel Tower and just started taking pictures.  The shot we chose is slightly askew, which is why it’s our favorite.  It kind of made me think that Paris is the center of warmth in the world making Vegas my paradise.  Every time I’m in Vegas, I wander around looking for something beautiful to take a picture.  The problem is I always seem to find hundreds but this was my favorite of this trip.

Our “Pic of the Trip” goes to a photosynth shot I took of Luxor with Mandalay off to the left and a hint of Excalibur to the right.  What is so special about this picture is not only the stunning shots you can get with photosynth but I was dealing with a lot of sun reflections not to mention the solar eclipse.  So when I went to take this picture, I kept moving until Luxor hid the sun.  The result is a very ethereal look to the property that original brought me to Vegas almost as if Luxor was emulating an epiphany that this property and city would forever change my life.

Vegas Mate Review of the Trip

Twitpic of the Week - This trips winner goes to Bryan's wife Angela for her picture or the view from our room at night.  It was breath taking and was the center of everything we did for the whole trip.  Not once did I walk into our room and not go out on the balcony.  Every evening, every morning, it was the first thing we did when we entered the room and the last thing we did before checking out.  Everything else in the room was great, we loved it but that view.  I’ll never forget it, possibly for the rest of my life.  We took dozens of pictures of it but we chose a shot at night with the fountains going off as out Twitpic of the trip.
